EVERSON, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 11:50pm Tuesday, February 2nd, to the Swanaset Lane neighborhood in Everson due to a report of a residential structure fire with several reporting callers.

Whatcom County Fire District 1 (WCFD1) Fire Chief Mel Blankers told Whatcom News he arrived to find flames coming out of the windows on the main floor of the 2-story residence and saw signs the fire was advancing to the second floor.
Blankers said he was told the occupants of the residence had to escape via a second story window.
Firefighters were challenged getting water onto the fire due to low pressure from a nearby hydrant and thick 6-foot-tall blackberry bushes on 2 sides of the residence. Tender trucks were brought in to supplement the hydrant water supply.
There were no injuries due to the fire reported by the residents or firefighters.
The residents displaced by the fire were being assisted by services coordinated by Nooksack Tribal Police.
WCFD1 firefighters spent 5 hours onsite and the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office.
