WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Seismologists with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PSNS) detected an earthquake about 11:35pm yesterday, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, near the city of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island. The epicenter is about 30 miles south of Whatcom County.
The earthquake was determined to have had a magnitude of 3.8 with an epicenter depth of about 16 miles.

The epicenter was located under Crescent Harbor and adjacent to the Whidbey Island Navy Station.
The earthquake was reportedly felt by many between Everett and Bellingham.
A magnitude 3.8 earthquake is considered a “weak earthquake.” Earthquakes in this range may be felt locally and are not expected to cause damage.
