Earthquake detected ~40 miles southwest of Whatcom County

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Seismologists with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PSNS) reported an earthquake was detected about 10pm yesterday, Thursday, February 14, 2025, about 10 miles south of Victoria, BC, under the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The epicenter was about 40 miles southwest of Whatcom County.

The earthquake was determined to have had a magnitude of 3.7 and an epicenter depth of about 25 miles.

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake is considered a “weak earthquake.” Earthquakes in this range may be felt locally and are not expected to cause damage.
