LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of a car versus pole crash at the intersection of Double Ditch Road about 9:25am today, February 22nd.

Law enforcement personnel closed E Badger Road (SR546) in both directions between Guide Meridian (SR539) and Benson Road due to power lines down across the roadway.

Approximate location of the crash

Washington State Patrol Trooper Anthony Reese confirmed it was a car versus power pole crash and that the power pole was sheared by the crash.

Lynden Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Yoshimoto said aid crews transported the driver via advanced life support (ALS) protocols to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

About 10:10am. Washington State Department of Transportation officials said they were awaiting Puget Sound Energy crews to deal with the downed lines and added, “We expect this to take a while, so please plan to use alternate routes.”

UPDATE 1:45pm: E Badger Road is reopened to traffic, but traffic is alternating via flaggers through a single open lane while repair work continues.
