Cold weather advisory issued in Whatcom County due to frostbite and hypothermia risk

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Seattle office of the National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for western Whatcom County due to expected “very cold wind chills.”

The advisory is in effect from 9pm today, Friday, January 17, 2025, until 10am on Saturday. According to the advisory statement, “very cold wind chills of 15 to 20 degrees” are expected.

Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Very cold temperatures will impact vulnerable populations such as the homeless, pets, and those without adequate access to heating. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
