Coastal flood advisory and watch issued in Whatcom County for the weekend

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The National Weather Service Seattle office today, Friday, January 2, 2026, has issued a coastal flood advisory for Saturday and a coastal flood watch for Sunday due to expected tidal overflow.

…COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 9 AM PST SATURDAY…
…COASTAL FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT SUNDAY MORNING…

  • WHAT…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor coastal flooding expected. Inundation of 1.5 to 2.5 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas. For the Coastal Flood Watch, significant coastal flooding possible. Inundation of 2 to 3 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas.
  • WHERE…San Juan County and Lowlands of Western Whatcom County zones.
  • WHEN…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 5 AM to 9 AM PST Saturday. For the Coastal Flood Watch, Sunday morning.
  • IMPACTS…Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Some shoreline erosion may occur.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
