FERNDALE, Wash. — The City of Ferndale issued the following statement about 8:30am on Friday, December 12, 2025, detailing flood impacts following the Nooksack River cresting about a half-foot short of major flood stage range.
The Nooksack River crested at approximately 22.42 feet around 10:00 PM on Thursday and is now receding. This was a high–moderate flood event. While Ferndale experienced multiple road closures and some flooding impacting residential properties, our community was not impacted as severely as East County communities and communities to our South. City crews will continue assessments throughout the day.
Main Street east of Barrett Road has been reopened, however please drive cautiously as there is still water over the roadway.
The city is also tracking a second weather system expected on or around December 16, currently forecast to reach high action stage with a projected crest near 17 feet. Forecasts can change, and the city will continue to monitor conditions closely.
Now, the city is transitioning to recovery. To the extent possible, recovery should be coordinated through established volunteer organizations so assistance can be used safely and efficiently. Identifying volunteer needs can take time, and uncoordinated efforts can unintentionally cause harm before communities are ready.
