Puget Sound Energy reported 43 60 of their customers lost power after a car crashed into a pole at the corner of Harksell Road and Delta Line Road about 11am today.
A Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy and North Whatcom Fire Rescue crews were seen awaiting assistance from PSE crews before the car’s occupants could leave for the car that was under and surrounded by what was suspected to be power lines.
The utility pole was broken at a point about 7 feet above the ground and toppled over the possibly new (the dealer price sticker was visible in the driver side back window and it had dealer plates) white Honda Fit. Lines could seen drooping significantly toward the ground leading away from the crash scene along both roads.
As of 12:45pm, PSE estimated power would be restored by 5pm today.
There were no reports of anyone with serious injures but the car sustained significant front-end damage.
Update 12:30pm
PSE crews arrived at the scene and cleared downed lines around the car. A neighbor who came to view the crash scene reported hearing a car that sounded like it was going “extremely fast” go past their residence on Harksell Road moments before they lost power.
