Bus vs car incident on Hannegan ends with bus under toppled canopy at nearby gas station

LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of E Pole Road (SR544) and Hannegan Road about 7:55pm on Monday, December 18th, due to reports of a crash involving a Whatcom Transportation Authority bus and another vehicle.

The PulsePoint EMS dispatch log service reported at least 1 patient had been transported from the crash site via ambulance.

According to unconfirmed law enforcement and fire/aid radio transmissions at the time, 3 patients were assessed at the scene. The collision occurred on E Pole Road and the bus ended up colliding with the fuel pump island and canopy supports.

Witnesses reported the crash resulted in bringing down a large part of the canopy over the fuel pumps islands. There was no report of a fire.

As of 9pm, the incident and responders were blocking a lane of E Pole Road.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News this was a 2-car crash involving the bus and a 2012 GMC Acadia SUV. The bus driver suffered minor injuries.
