BLAINE, Wash. — A section of Birch Bay-Lynden Road that crosses California Creek has collapsed over the creek bed.

There is no official information regarding when the road was discovered to be failing but heavy local rains over the previous 2 days drove up the volume of water being carried in area streams and creeks.

Approximate location of the washout

An extended road closure is likely before repairs can be made. Only local is being allowed on Birch Bay-Lynden Road between Portal Way and Kickerville Road.

Traffic is currently being diverted around the road closure via Portal Way, Loomis Trail Road and Blaine Road.
