Bellingham man arrested, suspected of several counts of child rape

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release today, Thursday, September 21st, detailing the arrest and subsequent charges against a Bellingham man earlier this week.

In February of 2023, WCSO detectives took over an investigation of historical sexual assaults involving minors. Through the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest 31-year-old Brian Drake of Bellingham for:

  • 3 counts of Rape of a Child 1st Degree
  • Rape of a Child 2nd Degree
  • Attempted Rape of a Child 1st Degree
  • Attempted Rape of a Child 2nd Degree
  • 7 Counts of Child Molestation 1st Degree
  • Rape of a Child 3rd Degree
  • Rape 2nd Degree
  • Attempted Rape of a Child 3rd Degree
  • 3 counts of Indecent Liberties
  • Child Molestation 2nd Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree w/Sexual Motivation
  • 2 counts of Incest 1st Degree
  • Voyeurism
  • Intimidating a Witness

The investigation found the abuse took place between 2002 – 2009 and involved minors who were known to Mr. Drake. On Tuesday, September 19, WCSO Detectives contacted Mr. Drake at his residence. He agreed to provide an interview during which he admitted to sexually assaulting the minors. He was booked into the Whatcom County Jail without incident. As of today, Drake remained in custody at the Whatcom County Jail pending being able to post a $350,000 bail bond.
