WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — On March 20, 2026, at about 5:50am, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded to a reported assault in the 9700 block of Northwood Road in Lynden.
A victim reported waiting for a ride when William Dewayne Treadaway, 50, arrived in a vehicle. The victim stated that Treadaway possessed a pocketknife and, following a verbal exchange, retrieved a baseball bat from the vehicle. According to the victim, Treadaway approached with the knife in one hand and the bat in the other, striking the victim once in the shoulder and upper arm with the bat. WCSO deputies reviewed surveillance footage from the location, which showed Treadaway striking the victim with the bat.
At about 6:50am, deputies attempted to contact Treadaway at his residence in the 5200 block of Graveline Road in Bellingham. Treadaway confirmed he was inside the residence via phone but refused to exit for approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes. He was taken into custody at about 10:40am.
Treadaway was charged in Whatcom County Superior Court with the following.
- 2nd-degree assault (Felony B)
- Harassment (Gross Misdemeanor)
- Weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm (Gross Misdemeanor)
- Obstructing a law enforcement officer (Gross Misdemeanor)
Court records indicate Treadaway was released from custody after posting a $15,000 bond on March 24, 2026.
