4 stabbed at Everson party – suspect in custody

EVERSON, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) issued a press release today, May 5th, reporting they had a suspect in custody after several people had been stabbed at a party.

According to the press release, around 2am on May 4th, WCSO deputies, Everson Police officers and Sumas Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 7600 block of Goodwin Road in Everson. This was a location of a large party at the Glen Echo Community Center with several hundred people in attendance.

Initial reports were that a fight involving numerous people had broken out, there were multiple stabbing victims and the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

The officers from Everson Police and Sumas Police were first to arrive and found 4 stabbing victims, all adult males. 1 victim had a stab wound to a leg and another had a stab wound to the abdomen, both considered serious life-threatening injuries. These 2 victims were immediately treated by law enforcement to stop the bleeding until aid arrived on scene. The other 2 victims had less serious torso and hand stab wounds. All 4 were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham by ambulance.

WCSO deputies and detectives interviewed multiple people and learned the altercation appeared to have been from a previous grievance between the parties. They were able to identify the suspect in the stabbings as Antonio Santiago Vazquez, age 38, from Lynden.

Today, deputies located Mr. Santiago Vazquez near Lynden and he was arrested without incident and booked into the Whatcom County Jail around 12:45pm for suspicion of 3 counts of 1st degree assault with a knife and 1 count of 2nd degree assault.
