WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Local health officials and state health officials are investigating a Salmonella Bovismorbificans outbreak linked to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC of Idaho, according to the Whatcom County Health Department.
The sprouts were sold at grocery stores and served in restaurants in Whatcom County. A confirmed list of all locations of sale or service is not available. Officials stated anyone with the sprouts should throw them away.
According to health officials, individuals who suspect illness from the sprouts can call 360-778-6000 or use the Foodborne Illness Notification System online form. Individuals who test positive for Salmonella infection can report the case to the nurse on duty at 360-778-6089.
As of September 2, 2026, 13 people in Washington have become ill, with illness onset dates ranging from July 7, 2026, to August 18, 2026. Of 12 people interviewed, 8 reported eating sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC. Seven ate broccoli sprouts, and the sprout variety consumed by 1 person is unknown. The sprouts were purchased from grocery stores and restaurants in Washington.

Three additional people are infected with the strain: 2 from Montana and 1 from Idaho, according to officials.
Sprout samples from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts and other suppliers are undergoing testing at the Washington State Public Health Laboratory.
The outbreak is unrelated to a multistate Salmonella and Escherichia coli outbreak traced to alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Sprouts, LLC in Minnesota.
