2026 dry dock dates for the Lummi Island Ferry to be changed again

LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Officials with Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) announced today, April 8, 2026, that the dates for the Whatcom Chief dry dock maintenance have been cancelled and new dates will come after putting out new bid requests in the coming months.

The selected shipyard has notified the County that it will not be able to meet the required project schedule due to significant delays on its end. Because their revised timeline falls outside of the contract requirements, the County cannot move forward with dry dock as planned.

The County plans to initiate a new bid process in the coming months, with the goal of completing the dry dock work within a three-week window between September and October 2026. Additional details will be shared as they become available.
