FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 12:20am on Monday, September 5th, to a residence in the 2000 block of Grandview Road in Ferndale due to a report of gunshots while law enforcement was already enroute for a verbal dispute that had been reported to 911 from that location.

Approximate location of shootings

Ferndale Police Lieutenant John VanderYacht told Whatcom News via email that Ferndale Police responded to a report of a shooting about 12:20am. They arrived to find the 2 men, both age 44, with apparent gunshot wounds.

A witness at the scene told officers that 1 of the men arrived at the residence of the other and kicked open the door to the building. There was a short physical altercation between the 2 after which the intruder shot the resident and then himself according to the witness.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel arrived and determined both were deceased at the scene.

Whatcom News regrets the original version of this story said the shooting occurred at a business. That was incorrect according to the details later provided by Ferndale Police.

My sincere condolences to the victims in this situation. She is loving and gives her whole soul to this community. Her friends are working on a meal train and go fund me to help support her while she recovers from the sheer shock of this horrific event. I cannot imagine the pain of watching the love of your life and your former partner whom she never wished ill passing in such a violent manner.
