2 arrested following drive-by shooting in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department (BPD) personnel were dispatched to the area of E Sunset Drive and Studio Lane about 10:55pm, Monday, May 16th, due to a report of a drive-by shooting.

Approximate location of the incident

According to the BPD media summary log, a victim reported several bullets had been fired into their apartment, feet from where they had been sleeping. The report also noted “countless number of residents were placed at risk of serious harm and/or death.”

According to unconfirmed law enforcement radio transmissions at the time, a description of a vehicle seen leaving the area at the time witnesses reported hearing gunshots was broadcast to all area law enforcement.

A BPD officer reported locating the suspect vehicle off the road about 5 miles to the east near E 23rd Avenue and Mount Baker Highway (SR542) and that the driver and a passenger had fled on foot.

Detailed descriptions of the 2 suspects in the vehicle were broadcast to all area law enforcement and a perimeter was setup around the location where the vehicle had been located. K9 tracks were begun.

By 11:25pm, it was reported by radio they had 2 subjects detained. According to the BPD media summary log, they were located by a K9 unit.

2 men were arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail by BPD charged with multiple crimes including drive-by shooting.

Carlos Antonio Machado, age 22, was charged with suspicion of the following crimes.

  • 1st degree assault
  • drive-by shooting
  • reckless endangerment
  • 2nd degree malicious mischief
  • obstructing law enforcement

Dylan Roy Morris, age 22, was charged with suspicion of the following crimes.

  • 1st degree assault
  • drive-by shooting
  • reckless endangerment
  • 2nd degree malicious mischief
  • obstructing law enforcement
  • unlawful possession of a firearm
