UPDATED: 1 transported to the hospital after water rescue at Sandy Point

SANDY POINT, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 5:50pm on Saturday, January 13th, to the 4000 block of Mayne Lane on the Sandy Point peninsula due to a report of a person in the water.

Whatcom County Fire District 17 (WCFD17) Fire Chief Jim Petrie told Whatcom News that they arrived to find a man who was walking on the dock next to his vessel when he fell into the water. His wife was with him and called 911.

WCFD17 personnel were able to pull him out of the water and transported him to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia after having been in the water for 15 minutes.
