BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 11:50am on Saturday, June 22nd, to the intersection of Hiline Road and Chuckanut Drive (SR11) due to a report of a motorcycle crash.
The Washington State Patrol said in a press memo that the 2005 Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing motorcycle was southbound approaching the intersection when the driver suffered an unknown medical episode and crossed over the northbound lane and into the ditch. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver, identified as a 71-year-old Ferndale man, was transported by a medic unit to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
