WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — After a nearly 2-year hiatus brought on by COVID-19 mandates, Northwest Washington Scholastic Chess has returned to in-person tournaments.

Winter Grand Prix Quads were held between January 29th and March 26th at the Ferndale Public Library. The top 5 players with the most points overall in all tourneys received trophies.

On June 26th, the Bellingham Lake Padden Quads were held. This tournament was limited to 16 chess players and held at Lake Padden Park picnic tables.

Beginning July 9th and continuing through August 27th, the Ferndale 2022 Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix & Endgame Contest will be held at the Ferndale Public Library.

The 2022 Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix rated tournaments are open to 2nd to 12th grade players that desire to play competitive Northwest Scholastic Rating System (NWSRS) rated tournament games. Entry is free. Beginner players are welcome but need to learn the rules of chess before arriving at the tournament.
