Recent weather has been typical winter weather with gloomy gray skies and occasional rain. But a year ago, weather was much more ‘wintery.’
On December 17th, 2016, evening and morning temperatures were in the teens around the area. A snow advisory had been issued forewarning of 1 to 2 inches of snow come nightfall.
As a result of the increased frozen precipitation and persistent low temperatures through much of the winter months, Ferndale School District schools were closed a total of 6 ‘snow days’ by the middle of January 2017 and ultimately 11 days in total during the 2016-17 school year.
While there has been a snow event earlier this year, there have been no ‘snow days’ thus far during the 2017-18 school year.
