WSDOT crews stabilize slide area, I-5 lanes reopened

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Officials with Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced this afternoon, November 29th, that both lanes of northbound I-5, north of the Nulle Road interchange, are open to all traffic.

The right lane had been closed after a slide and downed trees initially blocked all but the left shoulder.

As of 4:15pm yesterday, traffic was being diverted via the left lane and it had been determined the right lane would remain closed overnight.

This morning WSDOT officials announced crews would be out later today to assess the situation and determine “next steps.” They noted crews will return at a later time to repair a guardrail damaged by the slide.

There was a traffic backup stretching nearly 4 miles when the announcement to reopen the lane was made.
