Worldwide Earthquake Drill at 10:15am Today

shakeout posterDon’t be surprised if you hear tsunami sirens or advisories to “drop, cover and hold on” at 10:15am today, October 15th. It is all part of a annual global exercise in earthquake preparedness called “The Great ShakeOut.”

As previously mentioned on Discover Ferndale, the tsunami warning system in the south Ferndale floodplain will be activated for this drill.

In addition, the Ferndale School System will be holding a district-wide drill with staff and students.

The City of Ferndale will be conducting a drill from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located in the Police Station at 2220 Main Street. The public is welcome to visit Ferndale’s EOC and observe the drill from 9:30am to 11am.

Great ShakeOut earthquake drills are an annual opportunity for people in homes, schools and organizations to practice what to do during earthquakes and to improve preparedness.
