FERNDALE, Wash. — It was January 2015 when it was announced Babe’s Place, located at 2038 Main Street, had closed their doors for good. Since then, the building has sat quiet.

Recent activity inside has become obvious to passerby and building owner Alex Hernandez says good things can be expected as a result. Hernandez also owns and operates Chihuahua Family Mexican Restaurant with his son, Jocsan Hernandez, around the corner at 5694 3rd Avenue.

A permit from the City of Ferndale was issued to remodel the former restaurant space. According to Alex, he has taken the opportunity to update much of the building’s plumbing, electrical and trim as well as new wall coverings, paint and flooring. The work is in anticipation of opening a new restaurant in the building at some yet to be determined date.

Alex says he has more work to do before he can start planning on an opening date.
