If memory serves, today will mark the Ferndale area’s first dose of actual winter weather this season. A combination of low temperatures, frozen precipitation and high winds are expected to mark the occasion.
About of 9am, area temperatures had dropped to around 32 degrees and snowflakes could be see falling around the Ferndale area as a north-south band of precipitation passed through the area resulting in a light dusting of snow over the next 30 minutes.
National Weather Service forecasters were not committing to specific accumulation amounts and locations but say to expect 1 to 2 inches of snowfall around the north Puget Sound lowlands over the next 24 hours.

City of Ferndale Public Works Supervisor Bo Westford said crews headed out about 4pm yesterday to apply deicer solution on the priority snow routes yesterday in anticipation of today’s frozen precipitation.
The High Wind Watch has been replaced with a High Wind Warning in effect from 7pm this evening to 4am tomorrow. Northeast sustained winds of 25 to 45mph with gusts of 50 to 55mph are expected.
