The National Weather Service Seattle office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Puget Sound lowlands as snow levels are expected to drop.

The advisory will be in effect from noon today (Friday) until 3am tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to drop this afternoon while precipitation increases creating the potential for wet snow. Temperatures are expected to drop further in the evening.

Snow levels are expected to drop to 500 feet by this afternoon and 200 feet during this evening. Locations under 200 feet will get little if any accumulation while up to 3 inches of snow is expected in the higher elevations.

To consider how this forecast may impact the Ferndale area, downtown Ferndale is approximately at sea level (36′) while Church Road climbs to elevations over 300 feet.

As of the time of this story (7am), snow was reported to be falling in Bellingham at the higher elevations (~300′).

This winter event is being forewarned for all of the Puget Sound area and has the potential to impact travelers heading out for the Christmas weekend. Drivers should be prepared for winter driving conditions.
