Winter Storm Watch issued for western Whatcom lowlands

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Seattle office of the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from 10pm Tuesday, January 16th, through 7pm Wednesday for the lowlands of western Whatcom County.

According to the watch statement, heavy mixed precipitation is possible with total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch.

Forecasters with Environment Canada issued a special weather statement saying a Pacific low-pressure system is expected to bring more snow to areas near the US-Canada border during the same time period. It notes, “Significant snowfall accumulation is very likely during this weather event. There is also a slight risk of freezing rain tomorrow night in areas near the United States border.”
