WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Forecasters with Environment Canada have issued special weather statement in effect for the Fraser Valley and west through Abbotsford due to expected windy conditions.
Windy conditions are forecast to begin this afternoon and continue through tonight.
This potential first wind event of the season is the result of a cold front sweeping through the coastal areas of southern British Columbia. Northwest sustained winds of 30mph with gusts to 40mph are expected and will be strongest near the water.
Little to no precipitation is expected during this weather event.
Wind gusts this strong can toss loose objects and cause drought-weakened tree branches to break according to the statement.
