Winds, rain and slight chance of snow mark change in weather

As of 7am, a third-of-an-inch of rain had fallen since midnight accompanied by blustery winds. These rains and blustery winds are expected to be a memory by this time tomorrow.

A low pressure system, currently located off the Olympic Peninsula, is expected to sweep through Puget Sound passing over Bellingham about 1pm according to weather forecast models. With it will come more wind and rain.

While areas south of this system may see snow today, currently the Ferndale area is not forecast to see snow but there is a less than 50% possibility during a few hours before midnight.

Moving in behind the low pressure system beginning this afternoon will be a strong and well-defined cold and dry air mass from the north. Any precipitation that does fall along the edge of this mass as it pushes into the area could arrive as snow.

Temperatures through the next 10 days are expected to remain between the mid-20s and the mid-30s under mostly clear skies. The possibility of precipitation returns late Monday, Christmas Day. The possibility of precipitation, including the frozen kind, will return in the days after Christmas Day.
