What appeared to have started as a vegetation fire spread across several properties and damaged at least one structure.
About 3pm, firefighters from Whatcom Fire District 7 responded to a vegetation fire in the 1800 block of Harksell Road. The fire quickly spread eastward across a couple properties.
Due to the number of units in the road, Harksell Road was closed in the S-curve between both connections to Enterprise Road and remained closed until 6pm.
At least one structure suffered at least minor damage from the fire. Several cars were damaged from the fire but it wasn’t known if they had been drivable.
Fire crews were still on scene doing mop up at 6pm. According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, no firefighters were injured fighting this fire.
Whatcom County Fire Marshall and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office investigators were on scene but had not provided a determination of the cause of the fire yet and were unable to assign a definite cause to the fire.
