WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The National Weather Service Seattle office today, Monday, January 5, 2026, issued a wind advisory due to expected gusts up to 50mph and a coastal flood advisory due to expected tidal overflow. The combination of the high winds and high tides can have a compounded effect.

- WHAT…South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph expected.
- WHERE…Island County and Lowlands of Western Whatcom County.
- WHEN…From 4 AM to noon PST Tuesday.
- IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

…COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM TO 11 AM PST TUESDAY…
- WHAT…Minor coastal flooding expected. Inundation of around 1.5 to 2 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low- lying coastal areas.
- WHERE…Lowlands of Western Whatcom County zone.
- WHEN…From 7 AM to 11 AM PST Tuesday.
- IMPACTS…Minor coastal flooding due to tidal overflow is expected around high tide. This may lead to flooding of parking lots, parks, and roads, with only isolated road closures expected.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
