The wind storm last summer that caused extended power outages brought down vulnerable trees that posed a risk for causing power outages. As a result, recent windstorms that have followed have been relatively uneventful. That said, another windstorm is expected to reach us today, December 5th.
According to this morning’s updated alert from the National Weather Service,
… southerly winds are expected to rise to 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 50 to 55 mph.
… the southerly winds will continue to rise this morning… peaking midday through afternoon… then easing later tonight.
In addition to the winds, up to a quarter of an inch of rain is expected today with more expected tomorrow. And with the increased rainfall comes the risk of flooding.
The forecast for the Nooksack River level at Ferndale continues to be worth monitoring as the extended forecast predicts minor flooding Wednesday and Thursday at levels typically associated with road closures (e.g. Slater Road, Marine Drive). As was seen this week, these forecasts change frequently.
