Wind advisory issued for Wednesday evening through Thursday, snow also expected

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Seattle office of the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for western Whatcom County due to expected high winds beginning this evening, Wednesday, March 1st.

The advisory statement says to expect southerly sustained winds of 25 to 35mph with gusts up to 50mph between 11pm tonight and 8am tomorrow.

Forecasters with Environment Canada say a weather system is expected to move into areas along the border from the north. This is expected to bring a mixture of snow and rain tonight. The lowlands will receive mostly rain while areas further inland and in the higher elevations can expect snowfall with accumulations of up to 2 inches.

A winter storm warning has been issued for areas in Whatcom County above 1,000 feet from 4am on Thursday to 10am on Friday due to heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 24 inches are expected.
