Updated: Widespread power outage reported in Blaine

BLAINE, Wash. — About 9am today, December 12th, City of Blaine officials announced that area residents were experiencing a widespread power outage.

The outage originated at the PSE Substation, we are working with PSE to restore power, estimated time of restoration is this evening about 6pm.City of Blaine (December 12, 2021)

Readers reported having been without power since at least 2am and earlier.

According to the city’s 2016 comprehensive plan, the City of Blaine Electrical Division provides electrical service to residents in Blaine and adjacent areas while Puget Sound Energy (PSE) provides service to portions of Blaine and the unincorporated UGA. The City of Blaine Electric Utility consists of 4 distribution circuits owned by the city and are connected to 2 substations owned and maintained by PSE.

Update 11:15am – Blaine Police announced that power had been restored. They noted public works and PSE crews had been working to restore power since midnight.

Update 11:50am – City officials reported crews had restored 66% of impacted residents with power.

Update 4:30pm – City officials reported crews had located the problem and were still working with PSE to install a new switch at the substation. Time of restoration is unknown, the outage may extend into late evening or early morning.
