Whatcom Sheriff’s Office seeks witnesses to Slater Road incident

FERNDALE, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) issued a press release today, Friday, October 14th, that they are seeking witnesses to an incident on Slater Road involving shots fired.

According to the release, What-Comm 911 call receivers dispatched deputies after receiving several calls about a possible road rage incident in the 1800 block of Slater Road, near the Nooksack River bridge on Thursday, October 13th, about 3:15pm.

Approximate location of the incident

1 of the persons involved in the incident then called 911 and reported that the other person had fired 2 shots at him, striking his vehicle. The reported shooter then fled the scene and was last seen westbound in a vehicle on Slater Road.

Deputies arrived to find a bullet hole in the back of the victim’s vehicle and 1 in its hood. The victim was not injured.

WCSO is looking for the reported shooter who is described as a shorter, heavier-set Native or Hispanic male in his 20s with short dark hair. The vehicle is possibly a maroon SUV with a broken driver’s side mirror, tinted windows and a tinted rear license plate cover. The suspect may have also sustained a head injury.

Bystanders were seen witnessing the incident, some videotaping it. As of 2pm today, no one had come forward with information.
