Weather hat trick achieved: Snow, ice and, Sunday, high winds

Stock graphic: My Ferndale News

The National Weather Service Seattle office has issued a High Wind Watch for western Whatcom County, including the Ferndale area, and the San Juan Islands beginning late afternoon tomorrow, Sunday, through Monday afternoon.

Sustained northeast winds of 25 to 40mph with gusts to 60mph are forecast during the advisory period. The winds are expected to peak early Monday morning and subside that afternoon.

Ice remaining on tree limbs and branches from this morning’s freezing rain event can make them more vulnerable to damage and breakage during high winds. This can also increase the potential for power outages due to trees and branches falling into power lines.

Temperatures are expected to hover within 2 degrees of freezing, 32°, during the advisory period.
