WCSO asks public’s help to identify suspects who attempted to steal an ATM

BLAINE, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has released a security video taken while 2 subjects attempted to use a stolen vehicle to attempt to break into a gas station and gain access to automated teller machine (ATM).

On Tuesday, January 17th at about 4:30am, deputies responded to an alarm at a business in the 8800 block of Blaine Road.

Surveillance video from the business (above) showed the 2 suspects breaking in tying the front doors to a tow strap attached to a red Jeep that had been stolen out of Bellingham earlier that morning. They are then observed pulling an ATM out of the store, again using the tow strap attached to the Jeep. The subjects made repeated attempts to ram the ATM with the Jeep but failed to gain access to any cash inside it. They eventually gave up and fled the scene in the Jeep, leaving the ATM behind.

The Jeep was found by a WCSO K9 unit in woods nearby.

As of January 24th, the identity of the 2 suspects remained unknown.
