A recent National Weather Service hydrology forecast for the Nooksack River at Ferndale warns of the potential for river levels known to flood some roads beginning Monday evening through Wednesday.
The river level is not expected to reach the levels that closed several area roads, including Slater Road, in late November but will reach levels known to push water and debris over some low-lying roads.
Forecasters expect the river to crest Monday evening just past the 14-foot mark and then again Wednesday morning near the 16-foot mark (see graph above).
When the river level reaches the 15-foot mark it still remains below the official minor flood stage of 18 feet but the following impacts can be expected.
- water and debris over the roadway on Ferndale Road north of Marine Drive and also north of Slater Road
- water and debris over the roadway at the corner of Barrett and Paradise Roads
- flooding of the WDFW parking lot on Marine Drive
- water and debris over the roadway at corner of Marine Drive south of Country Lane
