The plan was to close Washington Street between 3rd Avenue and Golden Eagle Drive overnight to allow a private developer’s contractor to dig up the road to connect to the city’s sewer system. Unfortunately, it’s going to be closed longer.
According to Public Works Supervisor Bo Westford, the contractor knocked out the water main in the area late yesterday evening leaving neighbors nearby without water service. As of 6am this morning, water service has been restored but the contractor is now behind schedule several hours.
Westford wasn’t willing to commit to a time by which the road would reopen but by noon seemed a safe bet.
The school district’s transportation department has been notified according to Westford so buses will know to avoid the area.
The detour route around the road closure remains 3rd Avenue and Vista Drive.
