Drivers on the Lummi Peninsula and on Slater Road appeared to have fared the worst this morning as drivers encountered a repeat of the icy roads that led to an hour-long shut down of I-5 lanes yesterday.
Law enforcement and aid units were dispatched to a report of a multivehicle crash on Lummi Shore Drive about 11am today. And law enforcement were also called out to multiple reports of vehicles in the ditch on Slater Road near Elder Road.
Today’s icy roads were not totally unexpected. Yesterday, NWS forecasters issued a special statement advising of the potential for frost and black ice.
Today, forecasters have repeated their concern and are looking at the possibility for locally hazardous driving conditions again tonight and Friday morning due to areas of frost and patchy black ice.
