Very warm temperatures expected Friday and Saturday

It is August but after enjoying several days with highs in the 70s, a forecast with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s deserves special notice.

Today, the National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office issued a special statement advising of expected temperatures in the 80s and 90s around western Washington Friday and Saturday.

A ridge of high pressure building over the Pacific northwest will provide sunny skies and much warmer temperatures Friday and Saturday. High temperatures on Friday will reach the mid to upper 80s across most interior lowlands… and near 90 in the southwest interior. Friday will likely be the warmest day at the coast where highs could reach the low 80s. Typically cooler areas near the waters of the north interior and Strait of Juan de Fuca will top out in the upper 70s.

The current weather forecast for Ferndale is predicting highs of 83° both Friday and Saturday. A slightly cooler Sunday is forecast with a high of 77°.

The very warm temperatures may tempt individuals to go onto the area waterways. Please be aware that the rivers and waters are still cold, NWS warns. Deaths during warm spells across the Pacific northwest often occur from drowning due to the cold water.

NWS advises the elderly and those with existing health concerns should remain hydrated and attempt to stay in a cool place during the heat of the day.
