Last year, the Ferndale School District asked their board members if they would be willing to relinquish the board room in the district’s administration building to relocate administrative staff currently being housed elsewhere. The board agreed and, as a result, an alternate location for holding board meetings was needed.
According to Assistant Superintendent Mark Deebach, after considering the options, Vista Middle School’s library was chosen. In return for hosting the board meetings, Vista’s library was slated for a makeover including fresh paint, carpet and installation of the board’s audio-visual system (which the school can now use during the day). In addition, fixed-position book shelves were replaced by rolling shelves (reused from the Mountain View Elementary School library) that can be moved around to create different spaces as needed. Deebach also pointed out that Samuel’s Furniture of Ferndale had donated some soft seating for the kids to use.
The project began at the beginning of winter break and is expected to continue for a couple more weeks. The library remains functional as work continues said Deebach.
“It’s a win-win for everyone. The board and the community get a great place to meet and the kids and teachers get a more functional and usable library space,” said Deebach.
