Shortly before 10am Washington State Patrol were told to be on the look out for an erratic driver on southbound I-5 north of Ferndale. Soon after they and aid units were asked to respond to a crash between a semi truck and a vehicle at the Portal Way interchange.
A white passenger vehicle was against the guardrail facing the opposite direction of travel where the onramp merges I-5. It had sustained significant rear-end damage with debris on the roadway all around it.
The semi truck involved pulled off to the side of the road past the Nooksack River bridge.
Ferndale Police closed the Portal Way onramp to southbound I-5 and southbound I-5 was reduced to one lane through the scene.
