Police and aid personnel were dispatched to the Ferndale Pilot Travel Center about 9am this morning after a vehicle was reported to have struck the building.
Upon arriving, the first responders found an SUV stopped short of the building but wedged between concrete pillars between the building and the parking area.
According to Ferndale Police Sergeant Travis Card, the driver told officers she had fallen asleep while driving. “The damage was actually very minimal,” Card said in an email.
The driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and cited for negligent driving and some other traffic infractions according to Card.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite said a patient was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
