FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 4700 block of Lake Terrell Road this morning, Sunday, September 19th, about 5:25am due to a passerby’s report of a house fire.
Whatcom County Fire District 17 Fire Chief Jim Petrie told Whatcom News they arrived to find a vehicle and fifth wheel RV fully involved. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to protect a nearby vacant house on the property. There were no injuries reported and no one was displaced by the fire.
The RV had been lived in but was vacant at the time of the fire since the occupant recently died of natural causes.
Petrie said power to the area had been out since Friday morning and was restored about 30 minutes prior to the report of the fire. Given the timing, it was likely a space heater or something else electrical caused the fire after the power was restored.
Petrie said the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
