nooksack river at ferndale hydrologic forecast 2015-12-4Update 1:30pm 12/4
The forecast river levels continue to improve. As of today’s 11am forecast, the river level at Ferndale is expected to crest at just over 17 feet Sunday evening, lower than earlier forecasts. This may create some minor flooding but road closures are far less likely than under the earlier river level predictions.

Original Story
Yesterday, December 3rd, Discover Ferndale pointed out that the hydrologic forecast for the Nooksack River level at Ferndale indicated exceeding the minor flooding level of 17 feet late Sunday morning and cresting just over the official flood stage of 19 feet about midnight Sunday night.

This morning the National Weather Service forecast has been updated this morning and it still expects the river to achieve 17 feet about noon Sunday but then crest at about only 18 feet before midnight Sunday. It is then expected to recede below 17 feet before noon Monday. No flood watches, advisories or warnings had been issued by the NWS at the time this story was published.

Ferndale area residents should be prepared for the possibility of usual low lying roads to be closed (e.g. Marine Drive, Slater Road) late Sunday and/or Monday.
