Forecasters had predicted this morning’s strong Pacific storm system with active weather stretching
across western Washington. Amidst the early quiet rain and calm breezes came the sudden rolling thunder.

A slight chance of thunderstorms were forecast for this evening and Wednesday as a compact low-pressure system moves north of Vancouver Island.

Thunder and lightning are not frequently experienced in the Whatcom County region. Although, it was almost exactly a year ago that a forecast significant storm produced lightning over a widespread area including Whatcom County.
