During this week’s regular meeting of the Ferndale City Council, Ferndale Public Works staff updated council members of upcoming projects which will impact traffic in October.
1 – Pavement Repairs and Crack Sealing
Public Works Project Manager Katy Radder said a crack sealing and pavement repair project is scheduled to happen in early October. This will be a rolling project which, according to the city website and confirmed by city staff, will work on
- Thornton Street from Della Drive to Shannon Avenue
- Vista Drive from the roundabout (Malloy Avenue) to the northern city limits
- Main Street from Barrett Road to eastern city limits
The lesser-traveled roads are scheduled to be worked on first so when the crew reaches Main Street they will have worked out any bugs in the process and be able to proceed as quickly as possible, minimizing the traffic impacts. According to Radder, this project is scheduled for early October and will take two weeks to cover all the streets.
2- Malloy Sewer Upgrade
Radder also detailed another upcoming project to upgrade the sewer main along Malloy Avenue. The city is having the aging 8-inch sewer main replaced with a new 15-inch sewer main along Malloy Avenue from Thornton Street to Oxford Court as well as a section 200 feet east on Thornton Street from Malloy Avenue.
Work will require closing all but local traffic on Malloy Avenue. Signs will direct traffic through a detour route that follows Aldergrove Road and Vista Drive.
According to Radder, the project start is scheduled for the week of October 5th and is expected to be completed in early November.
