WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Whatcom Regional Drug Task Force (WRDTF) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Bellingham Residence Office began an investigation in early 2026 into a drug trafficking organization supplying fentanyl and cocaine to Whatcom County. On March 25, 2026, investigators served search warrants at multiple locations and vehicles in the Seattle area.
According to a statement from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Arnulfo Chapa-Urgiles, 33, was arrested during the execution of a search warrant. Law enforcement searched several nearby vehicles and located substances that field-tested positive for fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
In a separate search warrant, Dario Misacango Gutama, 49, was arrested. Investigators reported finding cell phones at the residence containing messages requesting controlled substances. Search warrants served on vehicles associated with Misacango Gutama resulted in the discovery of heroin and methamphetamine.
Total quantities seized during the execution of the search warrants reportedly included the following.
- 741 grams of fentanyl
- 222.65 grams of methamphetamine
- 123.95 grams of cocaine
- 12.9 grams of heroin
Investigators also seized a digital scale, a notebook, and over $7,000. The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Bellingham Police Department, and Seattle Police Department assisted with the operation.
Chapa-Urgiles was booked into the Whatcom County Jail for 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl and cocaine) and 3 counts of possession with intent to deliver (methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine).
Misacango Gutama was booked into the Whatcom County Jail for 2 counts of delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl and cocaine) and 4 counts of possession with intent to deliver (methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin).
According to jail records, both suspects were booked on March 25, 2026. Each had bail set at a $25,000 bond or $2,500 cash. Both suspects posted bail and were released from custody on March 26, 2026.
