FERNDALE, Wash. — Thanksgiving morning saw over 130 people running around Ferndale as they participated in what has become known as the Turkey Trot.

Participants are not charged entry fees but donations are happily accepted. The beginning and end of the 5k, 2-mile and 1-mile courses is Cascadia Elementary School on Church Road.

Organizer Melinda Cool said this, the 7th year of the event, was one of the biggest so far. In preparation, Cool said Baker Septic and Pumping donated the use of two very appreciated porta-potties.

Donations collected are split equally between the Ferndale Food Bank, The Ferndale Community Service Cooperative’s Holiday Giving Store and the Ferndale Senior Activity Center.

Cool estimated her cost to organize the event at $20 and the donations collected at $2,024.43. She expected to be delivering checks to each organization this week.
